WORKSHOP: Sarah Funsch presents:
“Who dat is?”
Sarah Funsch has been toning her skills as a humorist since 2005, making laughs in stand-up, sketch, and short- and long-form improv. You can see her in Denver improv troupes like Intentionally Left Blank, Lab Results, and the Slits. Come explore the countless ways of creating and developing characters while refreshing (or learning for the first time) the basics of long-form improv. This workshop will provide a safe, open place to take risks and uncover the layers and dimensions of characters living in each of us. Be prepared to jump in head first, throw ambitions in the trash, and find out “Who dat is?”

WORKSHOP:
Peter Hughes presents:
"The Colorful Language of Character Development"
In this high vibrational workshop we will explore the seven energy centers of the body (Chakras) and play with how to use them in support of developing a character, sustaining health and wellness and costume design research. By identifying where in the body a character is in alignment or out of alignment with his/her wellbeing, the actor, director and costume designer can choose how to best carry and color the body in support of the characters journey. In addition, an understanding of a balanced Chakra system can be used to sustain health and wellness during a demanding rehearsal and performance schedule. What color is your character? |

WORKSHOP:
John Justis presents:
"Building Blocks for Light and Set Design:
The Basics of Technical Theatre Elements"
A great set or light design begins with an understanding of the technical basics. Learn about the basic functions and operations of various lighting instruments along with important terms. We begin to implement these basic skills by learning how to read a lighting plot and use and instrument focusing strategies. For the aspiring set designer, we learn basics of set construction, carpentry tools, and safety tips. We will get "hands on" with the workshop through the use of common tools and instruments. Both for the aspiring light or set designer as well as for actors or directors interested in understanding more about the technical elements of a successful production. |

WORKSHOP:
Paulette MacDougal presents:
"Designing Your Theatre's Season: An Interactive Workshop" Panel discussion with Allan Liebgott, Kathleen Davis, and Al Lyons
Artistic decisions: Choosing plays to balance the season for audience appeal; matching directors with play titles; evaluating potential directors who are new to your company; identifying talented company members who may become directors and how to provide them with directorial experience before giving them full responsibility for a production. These choices are important to keeping our theaters alive and vibrant. We'll also discuss how to attract younger audiences, and the excitement and risks of including lesser-known plays.
The panel members will share what type of programming works in their own theaters, and what doesn't. This workshop will be of interest to producers, directors, artistic directors, play reading committee members, actors, and any who aspire to these positions. We will also take a poll from participants as to which titles were most successful in your theater this last season. |

Children's Performance of Treasure Island
with Pam Clifton
FREE TO THE PUBLIC! - all ages.
The rollicking participation children’s production Treasure Island, will play for one performance only, free of charge, at The SteamPlant in Salida on Saturday August 6th at 10:30 a.m. The production is part of the 2011 Colorado Theatre Festival.
The whole family, kindergartners on up to grandma, will delight as they find themselves part of the show in this lively adaptation of the Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale. Our master storyteller will choose various willing audience members to come up on stage and play specific roles in the play. There will be plenty of fun as we sail the high seas with our pint size pirates, some “valley girl” mermaids and even an annoying talking parrot. No one gets left out of the act because everyone helps from their seats with sound effects gestures and songs. Please feel to wear your favorite pirate costume or attire in order to make our adventure come to life!
