2011 Adjudicators
Dr. Paul S. Newman (University of Minnesota, 1991) is the Program Director and Professor of Theatre for Adams State College, Alamosa, Colorado, since 1992. He was honored in 2004 as the Higher Education Theatre Educator of the Year by the Alliance for Colorado Theatre. He teaches theatre history, dramatic theory and criticism, play direction, scenic and lighting design, and stage and house management. Some of his favorite productions include: Rabbit Hole, Wonder of the World, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Buried Child, Noises Off, Arcadia, Orestes, Pirates of Penzance, Peter Pan, The Little Match Girl, and a British panto version of Cinderella with men playing the evil step family. He will direct A Streetcar Named Desire this fall. He has adjudicated play competitions for the American Association of Community Theatres, the Colorado Community Theatre Coalition, the Rocky Mountain Theatre Association, and the Minnesota State High School One-Act Play Competition. He has served as the president, and now treasurer, of RMTA and is a member of the Association for Theatre in Higher Education and the United State Institute for Theatre Technology.
Ron Ziegler is field services director for The American Association of Community Theatre. He served as associate director for the Des Moines (IA) Playhouse, where he is still a frequent guest director. He was also the first artistic/managing director for the Des Moines Playhouse’s Kate Goldman Children¹s Theatre and teaches there on occasion. Ron founded and managed the Iowa Fringe Festival and was the first executive director for Orlando (FL) Repertory Theatre, a professional theatre for young audiences. He is a past president of The American Association of Community Theatre, was named an AACT Fellow. He served twice as facilitator for the National Artistic Director¹s Conference and occasionally teaches directing workshops around the country. He has a long list of directing credits for various theatres during his three decade community theatre career, including drama, comedy, classics and musicals. Ron has adjudicated many state theatre festivals across the country and abroad, including twice for the US Military’s Tournament of Plays at various bases around Europe, and for the 2007 National AACTFest in Charlotte, NC.
Lorraine Scott has been involved in many areas of theatre for over 30 years. Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan she attended the Academy of Dramatic Arts, in Rochester, holds a B.A. in theatre from Western Michigan University, and an M.F.A. in Directing from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. She has been teaching, directing and performing in the Denver area for the past 18 years. Her recent experience includes directing Women Alone at the 73rd Avenue Theatre, The Kitchen Witches with the Parker Arts Council and is preparing for The Grapes of Wrath with The Vintage Theatre to be presented September 30-October 30. Lorraine is a faculty member in the Theatre Department with the Metropolitan State College of Denver, a Board Member with The Vintage Theatre and is the Colorado Representative to the Rocky Mountain Theatre Association.
